We are inviting applications from early to mid-career independent researchers to join the review panel for the Medical Sciences Internal Fund (MSIF). This committee reviews applications and makes awards of up to £12,000 to pump prime post-doctoral researchers to generate preliminary data and help establish their own research niche. You will be asked to review around 25 x 4-page applications per term. Attendance at the termly 1-hour panel meeting is encouraged but not compulsory. New members will be fully supported in their role by the Chair and Secretary.
This is an excellent career development opportunity for academics who wish to gain experience of review panels and research funding, and who are interested in learning about the incredible variety of research undertaken across MSD. Current members of staff from any department within MSD holding a position with responsibility for driving their own research agenda are welcome to apply. At least four applicants will be invited to join the panel, with consideration given to achieving a range of research expertise on the panel, and to the diversity of the panel.
Applicants must send a short CV of up to two pages, and brief Expression of Interest (200-500 words) describing your field of research and why you are interested in the role, by email to mrf@medsci.ox.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 30 January 2026.
We aim to notify applicants of the outcomes in time to review applications for the Hilary Term MSIF round in February-March 2026. If you have any questions please contact the Panel Secretary at mrf@medsci.ox.ac.uk.
