Graduate Entry Medicine march 2026 update- by Dr David Mccartney
This academic year we welcomed our largest ever intake - just under 40 students - as we marked 25 years of the Graduate Entry Medicine (A101) programme, a milestone celebrated in July 2025 with a special anniversary event at St Hilda’s College.
It was a pleasure to welcome back so many alumni from across the years. Thank you also to those who took the time to complete the career tracking survey, led by Dr Hannah Chase (2018), which was launched to coincide with the 25-year milestone. We look forward to sharing a summary of the findings in due course.
Reflecting the strength of our alumni community, we were delighted to see the work of Dr Youngjoo Kang (2018), who led a pilot near-peer mentoring programme for first-year Graduate Entry students, recognised in the 2025 University Vice-Chancellor’s Awards. The project was highly commended and would not have been possible without the support of many recent graduates who generously gave their time to act as mentors.
We were also grateful for alumni support in developing new videos for our admissions website which were published in June 2025, highlighting the career paths of recent graduates. These have been a valuable addition to our admissions prospectus helping us to attract the very best applicants to the programme.
At our end, many of our final year GE students are away on elective, whilst others are completing their student assistantship, many in preparation for starting F1 in August.
Finally, at the end of this academic year, Dr Richard Harrington will retire after many years as Associate Director of the programme. Richard has made an enormous contribution over the years and has supported countless students and graduates - more news will follow on how we plan to mark his retirement. As ever, please do keep in touch – it’s always great to hear news from alumni.
