UKRI one of the largest UK funders has made an update to their policies on Monographs aka books. From January 1, 2024, UKRI’s Monograph Open Access policy will come into force, affecting researchers funded by UKRI who plan to publish long form research. Library Software changing

Over the summer we will be changing tools we use to manage print and digital books, journals, databases, etc. The change will have a temporary impact on our services during July and August. The details are available on our guide but, in summary:

Key Changes:

If you plan to use the Bodleian Libraries in the week of 16-23 August, you are advised to order items from Closed Stacks (Collections Storage Facility) at least one week in advance. A staff-mediated option will be available to manage requests placed between 16-23 August but deliveries will be limited to Old Bodleian and Weston Library and requests may take up to 48 hours to fulfil.

Access to online resources will not be affected. ILL requesting through SOLO will not be available August 16-23. E-resources ordered near yearend may not be in SOLO until after the new system arrives but will be accessible through other routes.

Scan & Deliver: This service will not be available from 16-23 August inclusive and you are advised to place requests by 11 August.

Lending: From 16-23 August online circulation will be replaced with offline circulation and the data transferred to the new system when live on 24 August. Self-issue machines will not be operating during this period and all offline transactions will be managed manually.

Regarding ordering new books and other materials: there will be no automated ordering from the library management system for a six-week period (14 July – 23 August). Where possible, libraries will arrange alternative methods for ordering material, such as ordering directly from vendors.  As these workarounds will be more labour intensive the Bodleian Libraries will request orders for new material to be submitted before Friday 30 June to guarantee processing before the start of the academic year.

Thanks for your support and patience as we implement this large-scale project. We aim for the changeover to be as smooth as possible for our staff, students and readers.
