Key Information for REF 2029
Each research output submitted to REF2029 must satisfy open access (OA) rules to be eligible.
New OA requirements for REF2029 will come into effect from 1 Jan 2026. For the current period (2025) the following requirements continue to apply:
The author-accepted manuscript should be deposited to ORA via Symplectic Elements within 3 months of acceptance and be made open access within 12 months of publication (STEM) or 24 months of publication (HUMSS).

Library Training Sessions
The Bodleian Health Care Libraries team held two focus groups in Michaelmas which revealed that DPhil students want and need training about how to search for papers. We are holding training sessions about Literature Searching and Searching Systematically via Teams and at our library sites every month. Sign up for sessions.

Interview with Ruth Mallalieu, Head of Open Scholarship Support
This month sees changes to the University’s Rights Retention policy, and the statute covering intellectual property - Statute XVIB, which has become a personal favourite of our latest guest, Ruth Mallalieu, Head of Open Scholarship Support. Ruth’s enthusiasm for the principles of Open Access was evident during our chat – I was struck by the passion she has for the subject, and her warm determination to work with researchers to find the way through rights retention for each individual.
Wellbeing Week in the Radcliffe Science Library
In week 5 of Hilary Term the Radcliffe Science Library will be hosting a wellbeing week. There will be a range of events, including nature walks, mindfulness, origami, lino printing and more.
