Windows 11 Upgrade
Support for Microsoft Windows 10 will cease from October 2025. All PCs running on the MSD IT network must be upgraded to Windows 11 by the end of September 2025.
next steps - options for upgrade
You have two options:
To upgrade your computer yourself please follow these steps.
To arrange for your IT Support team to perform the upgrade please follow these steps.
What
As of October 2025, Windows 10 will be retired and will no longer be supported by Microsoft, meaning Microsoft will stop release security updates, making Windows 10 machine vulnerable to cyber threats. You will no longer be able to use any devices that are not running Windows 11 on the MSD IT Services network.
Why
The Division and the University take IT security very seriously. Outdated systems leave us all exposed to threats, whether malicious or accidental. MSD IT Services manage over 7,000 devices across the division.
Unmanaged Devices
Unmanaged devices are those that have not been setup to use an MSD IT account (OES Windows logon using first initial and surname as username), and therefore are not visible to the IT team. Often they have been purchased directly by departments rather than through IT. Please follow the same steps to check whether you are able to upgrade the machine.
How do you know whether your machine is unmanaged? The simplest way of identifying unmanaged devices is that they don’t require the user to log on via OES with the first initial/surname credentials. Alternatively If you click on the little arrow on the task bar (to the left of the time in the right hand corner) you can see whether OES and Zenworks are installed (which means the machine is registered).
