Graduate Entry Medicine: Teaching and Learning
Teaching is provided by world-class scientists and clinicians; and the clinical placements both in Oxford and outside of Oxford guarantee a wide range of clinical experience.
Science
The medical science teaching in the early years is taught largely through seminars, and small-group lectures, with an emphasis on clinical integration. There are also weekly Clinical Problem based sessions, where there is a focus on medical science in the context of clinical problems. The small cohort means that sessions aim to be interactive where possible.
Clinical
Clinical teaching takes place in both hospital and community settings. Clinical teaching is delivered by junior doctors as well as by consultants; GPs and other healthcare professionals to give you a broad spread of experience.
College Tutorials
College tutorials are provided for medical science teaching and for some clinical teaching in the first two years of the course, and during some attachments later in the course also.
These college tutorials are a special strength of Oxford where teaching will usually be in groups of two or three students, and tutors will keep in touch with your progress closely throughout the course. This allows your college tutor to provide very strong academic and clinical support where necessary.
Student teaching
There are also opportunities for peer led teaching and there is an optional module in in Medical Education later in the course. Students from this module are encouraged to teach students who are just starting on the course. The feedback from first-year students who have experienced tutorials from final-years has been very positive.
