OxfordMedSci News: the Divisional e-Newsletter
OxfordMedSci News is a monthly e-newsletter for staff and students within the Medical Sciences Division. It includes important Divisional and University updates and opportunities, as well as links to event listings and current news, regular interviews with colleagues, and feature articles from different labs.
How to subscribe
OxfordMedSci News is delivered on the third Wednesday of each month to your departmental, unit or college email addresses. If you do not automatically receive it, please email communications@medsci.ox.ac.uk.
How to submit an article
Items (eg special events, updates, opportunities) will be considered for inclusion if they are clearly relevant to the whole Divisional community or a substantial proportion of the community. If your item is not suitable for the newsletter, we will advise you about other, more suitable Divisional or departmental communication channels (e.g. this website, X/Twitter, events digest etc).
Please submit requests to communications@medsci.ox.ac.uk before the appropriate copy deadline (see below). Remember to:
- use lay language, avoiding acronyms and abbreviations
- keep your text succinct and scannable
- include relevant links and images.

How to apply to create your own newsletter
The Medical Sciences Division has a subscription to professional newsletter software called Adestra for the use of Divisional and departmental communications.
Departments and units may apply to produce their own newsletters/bulletins, which will include receiving a workspace and an allocation of monthly 'sends' within the Adestra system. New requests for newsletter projects will be considered fortnightly by the Head of Communications and Divisional Registrar.
Step-by-step process
- Read the Division's newsletter policy and newsletter guidance notes (SSO login required).
- Discuss your application with your Departmental Administrator and Communications Officer (if applicable).
- Fill in the Adestra Newsletter Request Form – you can consult this example newsletter request application .
- Ask your Departmental Administrator to send a supporting email to the Division's Head of Communications (alison.brindle@medsci.ox.ac.uk)
Please note that you must submit an application for each newsletter project you plan to undertake.
