Elective Programme: How does the selection process take place?
All applications will be considered within a gathered field.
Staff in the Medical School Office will check that all the supporting materials have been sent with your application and that you are of a sufficiently high standard and have the necessary experience and qualifications to benefit from an Elective placement at Oxford. If your application is accepted by the Medical School it will be sent to the consultant of the department you have listed on your application form as your first choice of Elective placement. If that consultant is unable to accept your application it will be sent to the departments you have listed as your second and third choices.
If you are offered a place by the Medical School you will be notified by email by the Elective Co-ordinator at the end of December. You will be sent a letter of confirmation in the post once it has been confirmed which of the three departments you have listed on your application form you will be attached to for your placement. Please remember that we receive very, very many applications for 50 places and competition is extremely strong.
If it is not possible to offer you a place on the Elective programme the Elective Co-ordinator will notify you by email at the end of December.
