Dates and Application DETAILS

The window for applications for an elective placement between 1 September 2025 – 31 August 2026 will run from 1 November 2024 – 30 November 2024 (the deadline is 6pm (UK time) on 30 November 2024). Please note that applications for placements outside of this period cannot be considered.

Applications must be made via the Fellowship Application System, which is a platform used by numerous colleges in Oxford and Cambridge. 

There is an application fee of £50, payable via the University’s Online Store. The application fee is non-refundable and so it is imperative that applicants ensure that they are eligible for consideration prior to making the payment. In particular, applicants must ensure that they will still be enrolled as medical students at their home institution at the time of their proposed elective placements (ie. we cannot accept applications from applicants who will have graduated) and that the dates during which they would be available to come to Oxford are within the window for which applications are being accepted (ie. applications made in November 2024 must be for placements between 1 September 2025 – 31 August 2026 only).

Application Process

A complete application comprises the following elements:

Payment of the application fee

The non-refundable application fee (£50) is payable via the University’s online store. On payment, applicants will receive an order reference number (eg. OXF123456) which must be provided within the online application form. Applications for which a fee has not been paid cannot be considered.

Completion of the Online Application Form

The Online Application Form provides a section for Personal Details and a Questionnaire, which is focused upon an applicant’s choice of elective placement. Please note that applicants are able to select their preferred speciality from the list of available options only.

References

Applicants must enter the details of TWO referees within their application; nominated referees should have taught the applicant during their current medical programme. Once details have been entered, the nominated referees will receive a request for a reference by email. Applicants will receive confirmation by email when a reference has been submitted on their behalf. The deadline for receipt of references is 6pm (UK time) on 30 November (ie. the same deadline as for the submission of applications).

Mandatory documents

Applicants must upload a CV, an on-course transcript (ie. a transcript of an applicant’s performance on their medical degree course to date), and a completed Letter of Good Standing. Please note that each document must be uploaded as a PDF.

Timeline

Following the deadline for applications (30 November 2024), applications will be considered by both Specialty Leads and Leadership of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. We aim to be able to contact applicants regarding the outcome of their applications during January 2025.
