The Medical Sciences Division has an engaged and growing community of communications, public engagement, and patient and public involvement (PPI) professionals working across departments and units.

We run two networks – one for communications and public engagement, one for PPI – giving people the chance to share information and ideas, help promote each other's work, avoid duplication and, importantly, know who else 'exists' out there!

On this page you can also find out about networks run by the central University and see a list of current communications and public engagement staff working across the Division.

MSD Communications and Public Engagement Network

The network has over 150 members, most of whom are staff from across the Division working in communications and/or public engagement in one way or another (eg communications/public engagement officers, EAs/PAs with communications in their remit etc). The network also includes a few external members from close partner organisations such as the NHS and charities.

To join the network, please email the Head of Communications, Alison Brindle.

Termly MSD Communications and Public Engagement Network meetings

Two-hour meetings, managed by the Divisional communications and public engagement team. The structure of these sessions varies but may include workshops, training sessions, invited speakers, focused discussions etc. All network members are welcome!

Network mailing list

Please use the network mailing list to ask questions, share information, make announcements etc. Emails posted to the forum will be captured and archived (the list's archive feature is accessible only to list members and allows members to search for answers to particular topics before contacting the mailing list).

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Network

Our newest network brings together people involved or interested in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). As part of this, a mailing list has been created as a useful way to share opportunities and expertise within the PPI community. To join the mailing list, please email Polly Kerr.

We are also introducing a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) slot into the regular MSD Communications and Public Engagement Network meetings to give PPI people a space to meet in person.

Central University communications and public engagement networks

The Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) manages a Communications Community Network, which is a great place to make contact with others working in communications roles across the collegiate University. The University also publishes a Public Engagement with Research (PER) digest (email to subscribe).

The Public Engagement Facilitator Network (PEFN) is a University-wide network offering opportunities for networking, shared learning and best practice in all things PER. Email if you are a professional services staff member working in PER and wish to be added to the network.
