Divisional Leadership and Coordination
Divisions are a key feature of the University’s organisation and management, bringing related disciplines together to forge shared understandings, establish common agreed priorities, and support local initiatives. Divisions provide a focus for much of the University’s business, including the generation and development of the academic mission and strategic directions of the University’s varied disciplines.
The Head of the Medical Sciences Division, Professor Gavin Screaton, chairs the Medical Sciences Divisional Board, while the Regius Professor of Medicine, Professor Sir John Bell, the Deputy and Associate Heads of Division, and the Divisional Registrar work with him to ensure that the Division delivers its activities and aspirations efficiently and effectively.
Supported by the Professional Services team in the Divisional Office the Board coordinates or directly undertakes the work involved in the following areas: strategic planning; academic appointments and people issues; financial and resource management; capital programme; digital transformation; research strategy and culture; innovation and impact; equality, diversity, and inclusion; curriculum design; educational quality; fundraising activity; relationships with the NHS; and assurance and compliance related to divisional activity.
