This half-day classroom based MSD Skills training course is most suitable for those in their third or fourth year of their DPhil.

This informal discussion based around the ingredients for a successful viva aims to:

  • Inform students of examination formalities and University regulations.
  • Assist students in examination preparations.
  • Allow students to hear the opinions of examiners and previous students.

This course will take place as a workshop, which will involve presentations and informal discussions, with free rein for students to ask questions throughout.

Examiners can 'red flag' problems that have occurred in the past, but they can also discuss what makes for an excellent candidate and successful viva. There will a be chance for informal discussions with post-docs who have recently successfully passed their viva voce examination in MSD.
