Chemistry in Cells: New Technologies to Probe Complex Biology and Medicine

It is currently impossible to accurately and directly quantify interactions of molecules, and their consequences, in the complex physiological settings relevant to diagnosis and treatment of disease. We have established the 4-year Wellcome Trust Chemistry in Cells DPhil programme to provide our diverse graduates with bespoke training in cutting-edge chemical and physical science approaches to develop technologies that will underpin research across the spectrum of front-line cell biology and biomedical science, addressing diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease and metabolic disorders including diabetes. We provide taught and practical courses delivered by academic and industrial experts from a wide range of disciplines and exceptional opportunities to undertake world-class industrial, academic and clinical placements.  With our support, graduates develop a highly innovative multidisciplinary DPhil project.

Applicants who are offered places on the Chemistry in Cells course will be fully funded. This generous funding includes:

• Course fees at the home rate* 
• Four full years of stipend at not less than £23,955 per annum
• Generous allowances and expenses for travel, conferences, and placements
• Access to a transitional fund which can be used to support internship and other activities intended to support the career development of students at the end of their course.

*International applicants are welcome to apply to the programme, and any successful applicants will have the international component of their fee covered from University funds.
