Information governance (IG) is the way an organisation manages its information assets over their lifecycle.

Areas within IG include, but are not limited to, data management, information security, records management, archiving and disposal, information compliance, and the strategies and frameworks that support the way information is managed.

The Medical Sciences Division has a dedicated network for information governance, including the Information Risk Advisory Group (IRAG). There is both an MS Team and a Sharepoint site, which is part of the MSD GRC Hub.

All information governance activity is underpinned by the relevant legislation and answerable to the Information Commissioner's Office, and compliant with the requirements of external data providers such as the NHS.
