Adding or editing YouTube captions

YouTube automatically generates subtitles/closed captions, but they will likely require some tweaking for punctuation, capital letters, technical words etc. There are also options to type your own subtitles or paste in a script, for which you will need to set timings. This can be a bit time-consuming but the interface is relatively intuitive.

To add or edit YouTube captions:

  • Log in to your YouTube account
  • Go to 'Your Videos' in the menu on the left hand side
  • Select the video
  • Click on 'Subtitles' in the menu on the left hand side
  • Click on 'Published automatic' to edit the automatically generated captions, or you have the option of adding your own script
