Clinical trials are a key part of the research undertaken in Oxford and supporting this requires specialist Clinical Trials Units (CTUs), offering expertise in a wide range of disease areas, interventions and trial types. Areas include cancer, vaccines, diabetes, surgery, perinatal epidemiology, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disease, primary care research, and trauma.

Having these CTUs within the University offers CTU staff opportunities for career progression whilst retaining benefits of staying with the same employer.

Each CTU has its own staffing structure designed to support the types, size and complexity of trials and studies run by the unit.
