A Volunteer Opportunity with Real Impact

The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is relaunching its annual alumni magazine — and we’re looking for enthusiastic alumni to help shape it.

As an Alumni Volunteer Editor, you’ll play a key role in creating a magazine that celebrates our community, showcases cutting‑edge medical and scientific work, and strengthens the connection between alumni, students, and the University.

Interested in volunteering? Please contact us at alumni@smbms.ox.ac.uk to get started!

What You’ll Do

  • Help shape the magazine’s content by contributing ideas for features, profiles, and articles from alumni, students, and academics.

  • Identify, encourage and support contributors.

  • Edit and proofread features to ensure they are engaging, accessible, and accurate across medical and biomedical topics.

  • Champion diverse voices, helping ensure the magazine reflects the breadth of our community across backgrounds, disciplines, and career stages.

  • Act as an ambassador for the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, helping strengthen links between alumni and the University.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need professional editing experience — just an interest in storytelling, a connection to our community, and a willingness to collaborate. Ideal volunteers enjoy writing or editing, value accuracy and inclusion, and are excited about supporting alumni engagement.

Time Commitment

Around 4–5 hours per month, with increased involvement (10–15 hours monthly) in the two months before publication.

Appointment Details

  • A two‑year volunteer term.

  • Reasonable travel expenses may be covered with prior agreement.

  • Volunteers must align with University values and adhere to the University Code of Conduct.
