Tuesday, 11 May 2021, 9am to 1pm
***This course is fully booked*** This online MSD Skills Training course is suitable for postgraduate research students and postdoctoral early career researchers in the Division who are intending to teach in the University and HE more generally. This course contains pre-work you will need to complete before the live session.
This course provides an introduction to learning and teaching in higher education. Please note that this is a requirement for teaching in many departments in MSD.
This online version will consist of pre-recorded materials that you will need to work through prior to the two hour live interactive session.
You will have access to the pre-recorded materials once your booking is confirmed (please refer to 'This course has pre-work' below for further details).
- Apply fundamental principles of learning to your teaching
- Learn how to find teaching opportunities in the University
- Design and consider different ways of delivering small group teaching
- Provide high quality feedback to your students
- Evaluate the effectiveness of your teaching
HOW IT WILL WORK
Once you have booked onto the scheduled live interactive session, you will be sent a self-enrolment link to Canvas. You need to self-enrol and work your way through all of the PLTO materials in Canvas well in advance of the live session.
Booking confirmation and reminder emails will provide the session link and joining instructions for the live scheduled session.
You can click on the session link up to 15 minutes before the session is due to start. Once the tutors have started the session, they will tell you what to do.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
A good internet connection, uninterrupted time, camera and microphone enabled on PC.
THIS COURSE HAS PRE-WORK
Once you have booked on the course, you will receive the self-enrolment link from Canvas.
Self-enrolling using this link gives you access to the pre-work (pre-recorded lectures, exercises and other materials) you will need to work through to participate in the live session.
Please note that Canvas is a separate platform to the booking system. You may need to check your junk folder if you haven't received the email with the Canvas self-enrolment link.
ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE ON SURVEY COMPLETION
It is now a requirement that you complete the three short feedback questions sent to you once you have completed the course. This is to enable us to get the feedback we need to evaluate and improve our courses. On submitting the completed survey you will then receive an email with a link to download your attendance certificate. All survey results are downloaded and stored anonymously.
Where no cost is given in the shopping basket, no deposit is required. However, two or more instances of non-attendance or late cancellation (less than 72 hours before the course is due to start) without prior notice of mitigating circumstances will be logged and may mean you will not be able to attend any further MSD Skills training courses in the term.
These terms and conditions apply to all MSD Skills training courses attendees.
