Over the past twenty-five years, there have been substantial advancements in our understanding of the human brain, with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) playing a pivotal role among enabling technologies. The integration of MRI with techniques such as electrophysiology, brain stimulation, histology, and wearable devices has driven significant progress in both basic and clinical neuroscience, resulting in tangible benefits within clinical settings.

At the Oxford University Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, I lead the core team of around 30 staff across three departments—including radiographers, physicists, computing specialists, and research administrators—to support the Centre’s research. Together, we advance brain technologies and cultivate skilled teams to ensure our research has real-world impact.

I am heavily involved in communicating the research we do to the general public (for example, see the animation on the left) including working with schools to inspire the next generation of scientists, and reaching wider audiences through collaborations with museums and patient groups.

Building on the work that I have done with my team on career development and recognition of those in technical specialist roles, I am now playing an active role in the University’s Technician Commitment.  Chairing the University’s Technicians’ Programme Working Group, I am working to build best practice in recognition, visibility, career development and sustainability of technical specialists within the wider University.
