Associate Course Director, MSc in Global Health Science and Research Fellow

Hubert Lam currently holds the appointment of Associate Course Director for the MSc in Global Health Science, responsible for the academic student support and oversight of the delivery of the course. Together with Dr Ben Cairns and Dr Ben Lacey, he co-leads the Principles in Epidemiology module.

Hubert graduated in Biochemistry from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2002 and received an MPhil degree in Medical Sciences in 2004, focusing on the apoptotic pathways of acute megakaryocytic leukaemia cells in vitro. He moved to the UK in 2005 and earned a Doctorate degree in Epidemiology from the University of Birmingham in 2009, for his work in the epidemiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a Chinese population.

Before coming to Oxford in March 2015, Hubert was a Lecturer in Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology at the University of Birmingham. He worked extensively with colleagues in the UK, Chile, Hong Kong and China on environmental (mainly ambient and indoor air pollution) and occupational (work-related COPD) epidemiology. He is a collaborator of the Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study, an ongoing birth cohort study in Guangzhou, China, aiming to recruit 30,000 mother-child pairs.

Hubert had good experience in teaching in Higher Education. He was the Deputy Programme Director for MSc in Occupational Health at the University of Birmingham. He has supervised a number of students on various topics, including 1 BMedSc, 11 MSc and 1 PhD students.
