Licence holder courses provided by University of Oxford
The licence holder courses provided by the University of Oxford are accredited by The Universities Accreditation Group. Oxford provides add-on training for Personal Licence holders (PILs) that will be applying regulated procedures to non-human primates, ferrets or hamsters. Oxford also provides training in the use of neuromuscular blockers.
NHP species specific module
The course is designed and taught by our highly experienced NHP NVS and NACWO team. The course is taught in person and runs 4 times a year. Dates for upcoming courses can be found below.
Ferret and hamster species specific modules
The modules are delivered online by our dedicated NVS, with handling sessions taking place in Biomedical Services. Courses are arranged on an ad hoc basis. Contact training@bms.ox.ac.uk for further details.
Neuromuscular blockade
This course is specifically designed for PILs who need to use neuromuscular blockers. It is delivered online by a highly experienced NVS. Courses are arranged on an ad hoc basis. Contact training@bms.ox.ac.uk for further details.
Schedule 1 theoretical and practical training for non-PIL holders
Anyone carrying out a Schedule 1 killing method is required to have taken theoretical and practical training in schedule 1 killing. For PIL applicants, the mandatory theoretical component is delivered as part of PIL AB training. Anyone who does not have a PIL must complete the theoretical component before undertaking practical training. If you require Schedule 1 training please contact training@bms.ox.ac.uk to arrange this.
Refresher training
Refresher training may be required on the recommendation of the NTCO if a PIL holder has not used a species and/or category of procedure for 3 years or more. For further information on refresher training, please contact training@bms.ox.ac.uk.

Online, invigilated closed book exams.
