Licence holder courses provided by Red Kite
The licence holder courses provided by Red Kite Veterinary Consultants Ltd are fully accredited by the Scottish Accreditation Board (SAB). The courses are designed and written by NVSs, NACWOs and NTCOs with extensive experience in laboratory animal welfare and care. Red Kite provides PIL A, B and C training for small animals, fish, avian and large animals, and PPL holder training.
PIL holder training
Course structure
All courses are delivered online via Zoom, with live, interactive lectures led by experienced tutors. Participants receive access to pre-course materials two weeks prior to the course, including PDF copies of lecture slides, supporting notes and resources, and pre-recorded videos for PIL C.
Handling and practicals
Practical components are delivered face-to-face in small groups with dedicated tutors. PIL AB course practical and handling sessions are delivered in person at the University of Oxford after the course. PIL C practical’s are delivered at The University of Reading during the course.

PPL holder training
Course structure
The course is delivered over two days with live online lectures. Candidates are supported throughout the course and can contact tutors at any time before or during the training.
Assessments
Three-part post-course assessment (to be completed within three months). Candidates receive feedback and an opportunity to revise submissions before final assessment. Candidates must achieve a 70% pass mark. One re-sit is permitted if required; a second failure requires course re-enrolment.
