Leila Whitworth

Head of Research Strategy and Funding Team

I am responsible for strategic planning in relation to research funding, research facilitation, research policy and administration for the Medical Sciences Division, including:

  • Research strategy development, including research themes and research partnerships
  • Research policy and implementation 
  • Major external research funding bids
  • Overseeing internal research funding
  • Research funder relationships 
  • Research assessment including the Research Excellence Framework
  • Strategic planning for other research related areas, including innovation, knowledge exchange, impact, public and policy engagement, open access
  • Providing support for the Associate Head (Research) and Associate Head (Innovation)

I represent the division as a member or officer on the following divisional and university committees:

Before joining the Medical Sciences Division in March 2014, I was a Senior Research Facilitator in the Department of Physics, responsible for support academics applying for external research funding and co-ordinating the Research Excellence Framework 2014 submission. I have also worked in Research Services as Projects Officer and before joining Oxford in 2009 at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as a Portfolio Manager.
