Head of Research Strategy and Funding Team

I am responsible for strategic planning in relation to research funding, research facilitation, research policy and administration for the Medical Sciences Division, including:

  • Research strategy development, including research themes and research partnerships
  • Major external research funding bids
  • Internal research funding, including the John Fell Fund, Wellcome Trust ISSF, Medical Sciences Internal Fund and Medical and Life Sciences Translational Fund
  • Coordinating major bids to external funders including (a) large strategic bids, (b) calls that require a single institutional bid and (c) cross-divisional bids
  • Providing institutional letters of support for external bids
  • Coordinating major visits from funders
  • Preparing policy papers and responding to consultations relating to research from within and outside the University
  • The Research Excellence Framework
  • Oversight of other research related areas, including innovation, knowledge exchange, impact, public and policy engagement, open access
  • Providing support for the Deputy Head (Research) and Deputy Head (Innovation)

Before joining the Medical Sciences Division in March 2014, I was a Senior Research Facilitator in the Department of Physics, responsible for support academics applying for external research funding and co-ordinating the Research Excellence Framework 2014 submission. I have also worked in Research Services as Projects Officer and before joining Oxford in 2009 at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as a Portfolio Manager.
