How to apply
The Trinity Term 2020 round of the Wellcome Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF – deadline 29 April 2020) has been cancelled.
The ISSF Chair and fund Coordinators in MSD have taken the difficult decision to cancel this funding round due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The ISSF Committee apologise sincerely to researchers who were intending to apply to this round and we understand the difficulties facing researchers and their teams at the current time. Many researchers across the University are currently unable to conduct their research with all non-essential access to Departments and laboratories being restricted, with additional impact on clinical research and field work. The Committee are hopeful that the next round of the Wellcome ISSF scheme will run in Michaelmas Term with a deadline in mid-October 2020, and further information will follow as soon as possible. When the current restrictions are lifted the ISSF Committee look forward to continuing to support the excellent researchers and projects across the University.
Please submit your application online via the Internal Research Award Management System (IRAMS).
Wellcome ISSF Small Award applications from applicants in the Medical Sciences Division are reviewed by the same panel as MSIF Pump Priming Awards. If an applicant applied to both streams for the same deadline, only one of the awards would be made. Small award applicants from MSD should only apply for an MSIF Pump Priming Award, also through IRAMS.
Guidance in the form of quick reference guide documents for applicants, departmental approvers and administrators can be found on Research Support pages.
Note that some departments may have set an earlier internal deadline so please check with your local admin team and prepare your application well in advance of the date advertised above. Applications must be reviewed online by departmental approvers and, where approved, submitted for review by the Committee before the deadline.
Applications, scores and reviewer comments may be shared with other internal University panels to ensure maximum value for money.
