Nuffield Medical Fellowship: Our Departments
During the selection process, shortlisted applicants will be matched to one of the 16 departments in the University of Oxford Medical Sciences Division (MSD). This matching will be based on best fit to the Fellow's research programme and capacity to host the Fellow and their team.
Applicants should familiarise themselves with the MSD departments to ensure that your research area fits thematically within at least one department. When submitting an application there will be the opportunity to indicate which department(s) you feel is the best fit for your proposed programme.

The University and Trustees will facilitate the matching of Fellows to a host department as part of the Stage 1 assessment process. Please do not approach departments directly until you have been notified by MSD that your application is progressing to Stage 2 of the application process.
Fellows may be based either in the city of Oxford, UK or in one of the University’s tropical medicine research centres if this is appropriate to their research area and supported by the department. Fellows who are based in an overseas tropical medicine research centre must plan to visit Oxford at least once per year (travel and subsistence costs may be charged to their Fellowship) to connect with the Trustees and Oxford-based research groups.
All Fellows may spend part of their Fellowship period at partner institutions, within or outside their collaborator in a Commonwealth country, if this is necessary for effective delivery of the research programme. Significant time away from the host department must be agreed with the department and the Nuffield Medical Trustees.
