The new Fellows have been recognised for their remarkable contributions to biomedical and health science and their ability to generate new knowledge and improve the health of people everywhere.

Professor Creswell leads the TOPIC research group which mainly focuses on the development, maintenance and treatment of anxiety disorders in children and young people. At a time when COVID-19 has added to the challenges young people face, many of the Academy’s newly elected Fellows are at the forefront of child and adolescent health. Cathy has used her knowledge of the development and treatment of anxiety disorders to understand and address the impact of the pandemic and lockdowns on children’s mental health.

Professor Roberts' current research interests include immuno-haematology, with projects aimed at understanding host-pathogen interactions in malaria, using functional as well as genetic methods. He also works to widen the evidence base to improve practice in transfusion medicine

Professor Costa’s research is in clinical and cost effectiveness of musculoskeletal interventions and he is Chief Investigator for a series of randomised trials and associated studies. Cited widely, his work informs many guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
