Divisional Safety Officer

I am a Divisional Safety Officer employed to offer competent Health and Safety advice to Departments belonging to the Medical Sciences Division. I am based in the Sherrington Building and work closely with the "down the hill" campus.

My official role is to help Heads of Department fulfil their H&S responsibilities and ensure compliance with University Safety Policies, but my goal is to make the topic more approachable and the information on it easier to find. Hopefully I can demystify people's views on H&S and engage everyone on the subject.

I work closely with Departmental Safety Officers and Laboratory Managers and assist in safety inspections, reviewing risk assessments and local training initiatives. I am also attend local Department’s Safety Advisory and Genetic Modification Committees as representative for MSD.

I have a scientific background in Biochemistry having received my licentiate degree from the University of Lisbon in 2004. From there I went on to complete a PhD in Clinical Biochemistry at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, USA.  I also hold the NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety which I aim to advance to Diploma.
