Karen Brown

Executive Assistant to the Director of Clinical Studies

I support the Director of Clinical Studies (Professor Catherine Swales), her Associate Director (Dr Lois Brand) and the Director of Graduate Entry Medicine (Dr David McCartney) with a range of administrative tasks, including:

  • Arranging ‘Letters of Recommendation’ and ‘Letters of Support,’ signed by the Directors, for students applying for clinical placements in the UK and overseas
  • Collaborating with different agents and departments to support students going abroad for clinical clerkships
  • Composing official documents, including ‘Letters of Primary Qualification’ and transcripts for Oxford Medical School alumni; creating special transcripts and other documents for those seeking approbation for EU and overseas employment
  • Managing application processes for a selection of scholarships, including Linder Foundation Trust Elective Bursaries, the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries Financial Hardship Grant and Emergency Grants, and the John Potter Essay Prize
  • Authorising documents for our current medical students as well as alumni, including clinical elective applications, transcripts, degree certificates, and other paperwork.
  • Researching and compiling clinical clerkships data for doctors who are pursuing overseas employment and therefore require a Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Processing clinical electives data for the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA)
  • Administrating application processes for the United Kingdom Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO)
