Karen Bell

Academic Career Development Manager

I organise the training for staff affiliated to the NIHR Oxford BRC to improve their research and leadership skills and support their academic career development. This includes doctors, nurses, allied health professional and research scientists. The NIHR BRC is based at OUH and run in partnership with the University of Oxford. It funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people’s health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth.

I am part of the core Oxford BRC team and I’m based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. I work closely with Professor Sarah Rowland-Jones (NIHR Oxford BRC ACD lead), Professor Helen Walthall (Director Nursing and Midwifery Research OUH) and Dr Louise Strickland (Deputy Director Nursing and Midwifery Research OUH). After studying for a degree in biological sciences at UCL, I did a DPhil in embryology at Oxford University. I am also a qualified teacher and lecturer and have worked as a project manager on several government funded educational initiatives.
