Data Privacy and Information Governance
Responsibility for information governance in the University is devolved to Heads of Department and, due to the nature of their research, a number of departments have active information governance programmes and dedicated IG staff. IG comprises a number of disciplines, including information security and information compliance - where guidance and direction are provided by the Assurance Directorate.
My role is to co-ordinate Information Governance activities at Divisional level. I report to the Deputy Registrar and run the Information Risk Management Group, chaired by the Associate Head of Division (Digital and Information), which oversees IG activities and set priorities and direction for the Division. My work includes maintaining the IG risk register and providing oversight of progress across the University on mitigating our highest risks. I participate in working groups, committees and project boards relevant to these.
The Division benefits greatly from the expertise available to them in the Assurance Directorate and I liaise regularly with their teams and rely on their expert knowledge an advice. We are fortunate to have dedicated resource within Information Security (1FTE) providing IG as a service.
I also aim to support the IG community - this comprises anyone in the Division with an interest in IG related activities, whatever their level of expertise. We have a Teams site to which anyone can contribute or ask questions, plus regular meet-ups with a variety of speakers - the aim being to keep IG Officers informed on current developments.
