Oxford Academic Kidney Network Events
2nd Oxford Academic Kidney Network Symposium.
The Oxford Academic Kidney Network (OAK) was delighted to host its 2nd Symposium at the Richard Doll Lecture Theatre, Old Road Campus, Oxford, bringing together a vibrant and diverse community of over 120 attendees. Participants included clinicians, researchers, students, and professionals working across kidney-related fields.
The symposium featured a broad and engaging programme, spanning basic science, clinical research, and translational work. A key strength was the balance of speakers, including clinical trainees, senior researchers and healthcare professionals, providing an inclusive platform to showcase both emerging and established work.
A dedicated poster session featuring 25 posters highlighted the depth and diversity of ongoing research across the network. This was a valuable opportunity for discussion and knowledge exchange, and will be further developed in future meetings following attendee feedback.
A particular highlight of the symposium was the inclusion of a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) session, which were widely praised. These sessions offered important perspectives and reinforced the central role of patient-centred research within the kidney community.
The event also created excellent networking opportunities, enabling attendees to build connections across disciplines and institutions, further strengthening the OAK network.
We are grateful for the support of our industry partners, including CSL Vifor, Stada, Otsuka, and 10x Genomics, whose contributions helped make the event possible.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the symposium as informative, engaging, and well organised. Suggestions for future events included expanding poster sessions and allowing more time for discussion, which will help shape the development of future symposia.
Overall, the 2026 symposium was a great success, reflecting OAK’s ongoing commitment to collaboration, innovation, and patient-focused research.
