EIT Health (European Institute of Innovation and Technology)
EU funding for collaborative projects. Calls open December 2016.
A special seminar from Katharina Ladewig, Director of EIT Health UK/Ireland, will be held on January 19 at the Richard Doll Building to discuss this new opportunity. More detail on this event will follow.
The University of Oxford is a core partner in the EU EIT Health programme, which is a consortium of businesses, research centres and academic institutions. EIT Health provides funding to consortia formed of partner organisations and EIT external collaborators that contribute to the competitiveness of European industry, improve the quality of life of Europe’s citizens and the sustainability of the healthcare system.
The programme consists of three funding pillars (Campus, Innovation Projects and Accelerator) aimed to promote healthy living, support active ageing and improve healthcare.
CAMPUS fosters excellence and innovation in health and business education. Novel and unique education programmes are tailored to provide future healthcare leaders and entrepreneurs, who will shape the future of European healthcare.
CAMPUS offerings are intended to increase industry knowledge and showcase their potential, to deliver novel skills and also to change behaviour. It strives to transform European healthcare education, working with leading universities to make them truly entrepreneurial. It equips students, professionals and citizens with the kind of specialised knowledge and toolkit that will best complement their existing expertise to get their innovations into the world.
A funding call has opened for Campus Summer Schools and Short Courses in 2017 and closes Monday 16 January 2017. More information can be found here:
Innovation Projects are multidisciplinary and contribute to at least one societal challenge (promoting healthy living, supporting active ageing, improving healthcare). They include areas ranging from lifestyle interventions and nutrition, to brain health and treating chronic diseases, to social care and managing risk of exclusion, to improving healthcare systems.
Projects are categorised into one of two streams:
- Innovation by Ideas: collaborative projects that are solution-driven and bottom-up;
- Innovation by Design: collaborative projects that are needs-driven and start from a recognised market need or societal problem to deliver tangible results for citizens.
As one of the world’s leading healthcare networks initiatives, EIT Health Innovation Projects are in a prime position to bring diverse ideas into the market. Examples of previous and current projects can be found here: http://eithealth.eu/innovation-projects-fact-sheets/
Accelerator business plan competitions provide a forum for innovators to stand out among their peers throughout Europe. Winners will also gain easy access to a European network of living labs, test beds and investors. EIT Health business advisors assist all EIT Health projects throughout the development process to identify business opportunities, and help link entrepreneurs to public and private funding. Prizes are worth €50 000.
Calls for Innovation Projects and Accelerator awards will open on 19 December 2016 and remain open until 12 April 2017
