Teaching Awards 2025 ceremony. Awardees with Gavin Screaton, Head of the MSD

The 2025 Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremony took place in Pembroke College, on Wednesday 22nd October 2025. The Ceremony celebrated Teaching Excellence Award winners from 2024 and 2025. It was hosted by the Head of Division, Professor Gavin Screaton, the previous Associate Head of Division (Education), Dr Helen Christian, and the Head of Education Policy and Planning, Jane Dale.

The Teaching Excellence Awards recognise and reward excellence in teaching, supervision, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment. They formally acknowledge significant educational achievements, reward individuals who have exceeded expectations in carrying out their duties, and support the aspirations of those who wish to innovate and enhance our educational provision.

During the ceremony we heard from two 2024 Project awardee winners. Talks were given by Dr Barbara Zonta and Dr Delia O’Rourke on the “Assessing and developing student use of AI for academic writing in postgraduate taught courses” project, and from Dr Victoria Bradley on the project “A supportive approach to neuropalliative care”. We also heard from Dr David McCartney, 2025 winner of the Major Educator award, who delivered a fascinating speech on the highlights of his career and celebrating 25 years of the Graduate-Entry Medicine course.

In 2025, the number of nominations and winners reached their highest levels yet which resulted in the best attended ceremony. Over 140 people attended the event, and included award winners, friends, family and colleagues from across the Division coming together and celebrating the occasion.

The Awards Ceremony was a joyful and inspiring celebration of the outstanding work carried out by the award winners within the Division.

Many congratulations again to all the award winners of the 2025 round.
