Welcome to the Medical Sciences Doctoral Training Centre. Graduate students in Oxford are amongst the best of their generation and this is especially true of those supported by the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation on these doctoral programmes.
There are eight programmes, each with a distinctive intellectual flavour. Students carry out research projects with scientists at the forefront of their fields in addition to receiving outstanding training, together with the necessary scientific background to allow them to understand the context of the research they will carry out. Conducting research in a responsible manner and communicating findings to other students, scientists and to the public is an increasingly important aspect of any research training. The Doctoral Training Centre exists to support students in the broader aspects of their development as scientists and the responsibility that comes with the privilege of carrying out research. Inevitably when enthusiastic and able students get together, new collaborations develop. The inter-disciplinary nature of the programmes at the Doctoral Training Centre are also seen as a means of stimulating cross-disciplinary initiatives, through scientific and social events co-ordinated through the Centre.
