Professor of Bone Oncology
Professor Claire Edwards (née Shipman) obtained a first class honours degree and Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, where she began her career in cancer-induced bone disease.
Following postdoctoral studies at the University of Sheffield and the University of Oxford, Professor Edwards moved to the United States in 2004 to take up assistant professor positions at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and subsequently at Vanderbilt University.
Professor Edwards is the recipient of multiple awards and fellowships, including most recently, the Iain T. Boyle Award from the European Calcified Tissue Society.
Professor Edwards relocated her lab to the University of Oxford in 2010 as a University Lecturer in Bone Oncology, with a joint appointment in NDORMS and the Nuffield Dept. of Surgical Sciences, and a fellowship at St. Edmund Hall.
Research interests are focused upon the pathogenesis of cancer-induced bone disease, including the contributions of the host bone marrow microenvironment and the role of obesity, adipocytes and adipokines.
