In May 2026, the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive health proudly took over as the new lead for Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research, along existing partners: the University of Birmingham, the University of Warwick, and Imperial College London.
The new partnership, which aims to build on the research centre's existing outstanding achievements in miscarriage care and prevention, will leverage its world-class research expertise and facilities to accelerate the translation of research findings into clinical practice to continue improving the lives of thousands of women, birthing people and families across the country.

Since the centre was established in 2016, it has seen exceptional progress in advancing care for those affected by the devastating impacts of pregnancy loss.
The timeline below highlights some of the centre's key milestones over the past decade, from leading major clinical trials to publishing research with the potential to prevent more than 10,000 miscarriages a year if implemented across the UK.
