The winners of the 2025 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards were announced at a special ceremony hosted by the Vice-Chancellor in the Sheldonian Theatre on Thursday 15 May.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards recognise the achievements and celebrate success across the collegiate University, from academics and researchers to professional, technical and support staff. 

There were 160 award entries across the 11 categories this year, with 1,300 individuals included in the nominations.

This year’s prizes/commendations were awarded to the following staff and initiatives from across the Medical Sciences Division:

Teaching and Learning Award

  • Winner - Diversity in Death and Dying: Medical Student Museum Experience (Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences)

Support for Students Award

  • Highly Commended - Shaping a new generation of value-driven leaders in global health (cross-department multidisciplinary team of staff deliver the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine)
  • Highly Commended - Oxford Graduate Entry Medicine Mentoring Programme

Research Engagement Award

  • Winner - Engaging stakeholders to build a Kenyan learning health system (Nuffield Department of Medicine Centre for Global Health Research)

Research Culture Award

  • Winner - Embedding positive research culture through Ambassador Programmes (Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging)
  • Highly commended - Pioneering a new approach to mentoring future researchers (Department of Psychiatry)

Breakthrough Researcher Award

  • Highly Commended - Dr Becky Im (Nuffield Department of Population Health)
  • Highly Commended - Dr Maxime Taquet (Department of Psychiatry)

Making a Difference Globally Award

  • Winner - Building sustainable paediatric surgical capacity (Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences)

Supporting our Mission Award

  • Highly Commended - Supporting a ‘One Team’ culture (Nuffield Department of Medicine)

Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award

  • Winner - Department of Psychiatry Race Equality Working Group
