Co-lead for PPI in Medical Education
I am the Co-lead for Patient Public Involvement in Medical Education in the School of Medicine and Bio-Medical Sciences.
Patient and Public involvement in medical education is an essential requirement of the General Medical Council (GMC). By working with patients and those with lived experience of health care during their undergraduate education, it is hoped that medical students will learn to listen to patients more effectively and continue to learn from them throughout their career. Patients and the Public are at the heart of medical education and have a key role to play in the whole educational process.
My background is in advocacy and community engagement, having worked for Oxfam for many years. More recently I have also worked with health research organisations on impact, communications and community engagement – and supported patients and carers to influence policy and practice. I am passionate about ensuring that the voices of people with lived experience are heard in the decisions that affect their lives.
