Alumni share career advice with the next generation of Biomedical Sciences students
Biomedical Sciences alumni returned to Oxford on Thursday 18 June to share candid career reflections with final-year students, offering advice on navigating uncertainty, making career changes and applying a scientific mindset beyond the lab. The event marked a new step in strengthening the Biomedical Sciences alumni community, connecting graduates across cohorts with current students preparing for life after Oxford. As only around a third of the students present had firm post-graduation plans, the panel offered timely insight into the range of paths open to them.
The last 10 strokes
Crossing the line in first place is something all rowers imagine, but few get to experience it. For Annie, this was not just a moment, but a sensation that she pursued for years and that she was only able to fully comprehend when it finally happened.
Annie Anezakis is a third-year Graduate-Entry Medicine (Pembroke) originally from Melbourne, Australia, who returned to the University of Oxford after completing a Msc in pharmacology and her first Boat Race experience in 2022.
On her fourth attempt and after years of hard work and belief, Annie was part of the winning women’s team at the 2026 Boat Race.
