Disability Coordinator

As the Disability Coordinator in student support, I provide support to students in Clinical Medicine and to the academic teams in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Working closely with Lois Brand (Associate Director of Clinical Studies) and the academic administration teams in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  

I am the point of contact for the DAS Team, teaching staff, College Tutors, exams, assessments team and the academic administration team for Graduate Entry (GE) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and undergraduate years.

Key priorities:

  • Providing support to medical students studying on clinical courses Graduate Entry (GE) and undergraduates
  • Liaising with the Disability Advisory Service (DAS), the teaching staff and the schools’ lead for welfare and pastoral support and coordinate the administration of student support plans
  • Working with exam administrators, colleges and Exam Schools staff to ensure that approved examination adjustments are put in place
  • Liaising with staff in NHS partner organisations who are providing placements for students, including accessibility, arrangements for accommodation  
  • Supporting the teams to ensure that teaching and placement adjustments are put in place at various points throughout each student’s programme of study    
  • Working in teams to support undergraduate clinical students in terms of their health and welfare including where approved suspension of study maybe required for medical or personal reasons
  • Administering submission of Supporting Trainees Entering Practice (STEP) forms for final year students planning to enter their Foundation Training
  • Member of relevant Educational Committees and forums
