Sir Stewart Cole, KCMG, FRS has joined the Ineos Oxford Institute for antimicrobial research (IOI) as Executive Chair. The IOI is a world-leading centre of research, training, and education in the field of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) based at the University of Oxford. It was established thanks to an unprecedented £100 million gift from INEOS, one of the world’s largest chemical companies.

Winners of the Medical Research Foundation’s second Festive Science Image Competition, run in partnership with the Medical Research Council (MRC), were announced on Tuesday. Three winners were selected, with one researcher from the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) winning the second place and two researchers from the Department of Oncology were highly commended.

The Lasker Foundation today announced the five winners of its 10th annual Lasker Essay Contest. The winning submissions were selected from hundreds of essays penned by biomedical graduate students and health professions trainees from 25 countries. The winning essayists explored unanticipated ethical issues encountered during their training and strategies used to address them.
