Page Cancer
Our strengths in cancer research lie both in fundamental and applied areas and include cancer biology, immunology and gene therapy as well as the development of new therapeutic techniques, epidemiology and clinical trials.
Page Cardiovascular Science
Our research programme in cardiovascular disease incorporates both single gene and polygenic disease genetics. It has outstanding clinical trials and epidemiology expertise and has state-of-the-art imaging expertise and facilities. Particularly notable is the integration of molecular science, epidemiology and physiology, bringing together scientists with interests in the understanding of cardiac and vascular biology at both the molecular level, the level of the whole organism and in populations.
Page Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism
Diabetes or metabolic disease will constitute one of the most important health care issues worldwide over the next five to ten years. Our contribution to research in this significant field has been reinforced by the creation of the Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM).
Page Infection and Immunology
Our investigations in this area range from basic research in microbiology, virology and immunology to the development of vaccines and therapeutic antibodies.
Page Musculo-skeletal Science
We have a firm foundation for our developing bone and joint research in our clinical strengths in orthopaedic surgery, metabolic bone disease and rheumatology.
Page Neuroscience
Our research in this very large field is wide-ranging and collaborative in nature. Our investigations encompass cognitive neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neurophysiology, neuropsychiatry, developmental psychology, computational neuroscience, behaviour therapies and neurological/neuropsychiatric genetics.
Page Reproduction and Development
This field brings together our research interests in women’s health and reproduction, pregnancy, human development and the newborn. It involves work in Human Anatomy and Genetics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Physiology, Public Health and Primary Care, the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics and the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.
