The Divisional Communications, Public Engagement and Web team offer the following training and networking opportunities:

Locations will vary, but all three campuses will be used for the various sessions.

Bi-monthly Departmental Communications and Public Engagement Staff Meeting

Who? Departmental Communications/Public Engagement representatives (nominated by their departments)

When? 10-11:30am unless otherwise stated

Meeting Format

1.5 hour meeting, chaired by one of the members, with a focus on sharing best practice and problem solving.

Members will be asked about two weeks before the meeting to let the chair know what they are currently working on, what projects they’ve recently completed, and any issues/question they have. The chair then chooses 2-3 members to contribute to the meeting based on the information received. Members will present for about 15 mins each on either something they’ve been working on (e.g. why they are doing it, what the process has involved, what the outcome was etc.) or discuss a problem/issue/question that they have, which they would like the groups advice on.

Any remaining time will be used to give a divisional comms/PE update (Alison Brindle/Naomi Gibson) and followed by coffee/tea and an informal networking opportunity.

Bi-monthly Haiku Training Sessions

Who? All Haiku editors-in-chief and any comms/PE staff interested in web content strategy

When? Directly following the Departmental Communications and Public Engagement Staff Meetings (all 11:30am-12:30pm unless otherwise stated)

Meeting Format

1 hour session, managed by Fry-IT and Divisional Communications, PE and Web team

Fry-IT will conduct new feature training during this session and/or the Divisional Communications, PE and Web team will run focussed sessions on website content strategy

Bi-monthly MSD Communications and Public Engagement Network Meetings

Who? All network members (anyone in MSD with an interest in or connection to public engagement and/or communications)


  • Tuesday 25 April 2017 (10am-12pm)
  • Wednesday 21 June 2017 (2-4pm)
  • Thursday 24 August 2017 (Summer Social - time TBC)
  • Tuesday 17 October 2017 (2-4pm) 
  • Thursday 14 December 2017 (3-5pm followed by Winter Social) 

Meeting Format

2 hour meetings, managed by the Divisional Communications, PE and Web team

The structure of these sessions will vary, but may include workshops, training sessions, invited speakers, focused discussions etc. Potential topics include, Brain Festival 2017, Evaluating OSF, using Facebook to recruit for studies, branding guidance, newsletter strategy etc. More information will be posted on this page as the schedule is confirmed.

Ad-hoc Working Groups/Project Boards

Who? Divisional communications / PE staff, selected staff depending on topic of discussion

When? As needed

The Divisional Communications, PE and Web team will facilitate a variety of issue specific working groups, with the aim of creating divisional resources, guidelines and/or policy. Suggested topics for 2016–17 include crisis communication planning, internal communications strategy, 2017 Oxfordshire Science Festival planning.
