Russell Leek

Divisional Safety Officer

I am a Divisional Safety Officer for the clinical departments of the Medical Sciences Division and am based at the University’s Old Road Campus in Headington. My role is to help heads of department fulfil their health and safety responsibilities and ensure compliance with University Safety Policies. I work closely with departmental Safety Officers and Laboratory Managers to help achieve this through safety inspections, reviewing risk assessments and local training initiatives and am a member of each department’s safety advisory and genetic modification safety committees. I have close links with my very supportive colleagues in the University Safety Office and Occupational Health Service and our counterparts within the various Trusts and Private Finance Initiatives in whose estate our clinical departments are embedded.

I have a B.Sc. (hons) Biology, from Aston University in Birmingham,  M.Sc. Experimental Pathology & Toxicology from The Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London and a PhD in Oncology from Oxford Brookes University and over twenty five years experience in cancer research at Oxford University.
