Katherine Corr

Athena SWAN Advisor and Facilitator

My role is to advise and support all 16 departments of the Medical Sciences Division as they apply for their Athena SWAN renewals over the coming few years.

The Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research.

All MSD departments currently hold an award (more details can be found here) and are working hard developing effective and impactful initiatives to further improve gender equality across the Medical Sciences for researchers, students, professional support and technical staff alike.

I assist our departments in the Division in promoting gender equality and preparing applications for Athena SWAN awards. This includes providing staff and student data; administering surveys and focus groups; running workshops to share best practice; and coordinating initiatives such as training, the divisional mentoring scheme and the Returning Carers’ Fund.

I work closely with the University's Equality and Diversity Unit and the other academic divisions in support of the University's aim to foster 'an inclusive culture which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all its staff and students are respected.’
