A number of print (26 titles) and online (6 titles) journal subscriptions have been identified during our annual review of subscriptions as possible candidates for cancellation.
It is in light of reduced NHS budgets, increasing costs, pressure on budgets due to currency fluctuations, and the very low use of these titles that we are now consulting on their cancellation.
The online journals have a very high cost per download and very low number of downloads, while the print journals (all held at the Cairns Library) have very low number of requests. Given their low usage we anticipate the impact of their cancellation would be minimal on our readers but their cancellation would deliver up to £11,500 in savings.
If cancelled, the titles will be available to readers online, via legal deposit, or via interlibrary loan. However, please note that this isn’t a notice of their cancellation. At the moment we’re notifying our readers of our proposal to cancel these titles and asking for their feedback by December 23rd. We will then make a decision on each of the titles individually.
As part of this process, we’d welcome any feedback you may have on the importance of retaining these titles in print or online to your work or studies. Please respond to Edina Pillok, the BHCL Collections Manager, at email@example.com by December 23rd.
You can find a full list of the titles we are proposing to cancel together with information on their usage and how access would be provided if we cancel the print or online subscriptions at
