***THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED*** This half-day interactive online MSD Skills training course should be attended by first year DPhil students but is relevant to all postgraduate research students and postdoctoral early career researchers whose research involves human beings.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This online session encourages participants to articulate and reflect on the ethical concerns faced by researchers. Participants will gain a general grasp of the principles underpinning ethical reasoning with regards to research involving human participants and discuss relevant case studies. The primary focus of the session is to equip participants with the tools necessary to make moral decisions not to provide advise on the institutional ethics approval process. For this, participants are encouraged to consult the relevant NHS and University pages. This introductory session will be of relevance primarily to early career . researchers carrying out research involving humans.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course, you will understand:
- Importance of research: 'why do research?' as an introduction to ethics
- Ethics and Science: what is good research
- Risks and Benefits: principles vs. balancing
- Consent and confidentiality: autonomy and privacy

HOW IT WILL WORK
For the interactive session, you will be sent the link in the automated communication along with joining instructions. To join the session, you can click on the link 15 minutes before the session. Once the tutor has started the session they will tell you what to do.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
A good internet connection, uninterrupted time, camera and microphone enabled on PC.
ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE ON SURVEY COMPLETION
It is now a requirement that you complete the three short questions in the survey you receive after attending the course. Once you have submitted the survey, you will be sent an email with a link to your attendance certificate. This is to ensure we receive the feedback we need to evaluate and improve our courses. Survey results are downloaded and stored anonymously.

Where no cost is indicated in the shopping trolley, no deposit is required. However, more than two consecutive non-attendances or late cancellations without good reason will be logged and may mean you cannot attend any further MSD training that term.
