COURSE AIMS
To enable you to
- Choose teaching strategies and design sessions (e.g. lectures, classes, tutorials, etc.)
- Consider how your teaching strategies might affect your students’ learning
- Describe your teaching philosophy
- Evaluate your own teaching (through student evaluation or teaching observation)
- Use relevant educational literature to discuss your teaching values, strategies and practices
COURSE FORMAT
The DLT programme introduces you to teaching in Higher Education. You will use educational literature, design a teaching session plan, evaluate your teaching and submit a 2, 500- 5000 word teaching portfolio. The programme is accredited by the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) and you will receive a SEDA PDF Support Learning Award on successful completion of your DLT portfolio. The award is aligned to the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education, at Descriptor 1.

You will need to have completed a PLTO course or equivalent and be teaching registered Oxford University students in the interval after you begin the DLT programme and before you submit your portfolio (up to 3 terms after you start the DLT). Prior to attending this course and you will receive an application form to ensure that you meet the DLT teaching requirements. You will need to complete this application before we can offer you a place.

Developing Learning and Teaching for Medical Educators
This course is provided within the Developing Learning and Teaching Programme. It is designed for teachers and trainers of medical students and postgraduate trainees. All postgraduate clinicians – from Foundation to Consultant grades - are eligible for the course. There is a small fee for those without a University contract. Day One of the course is approved for Educational Supervisor training by HEE Thames Valley. This course (on successful completion of the portfolio) is accredited by SEDA and for fast-track membership application to the Academy of Medical Educators (AOME).
