I am responsible for the overall strategy and running of the Institute and also act as line manager for the doctoral clinical psychology trainees.

It is an immense privilege for me to be able to play a role in supporting the development of  talented and hard-working trainees into Clinical Psychologists with the wide range of competencies that the NHS will need from them in the future. I am also very fortunate to be working with such an experienced and dedicated team of trainers here at the Institute.

Teaching AT The Institute

Together with Dr Helen Jenkins, I am responsible for the Leadership and Professional Issues module of the doctoral programme. I am also involved in post-qualification training in leadership and clinical neuropsychology.

I began my career journey by studying Psychology & Zoology at the University of Reading and undertook postgraduate Clinical Psychology training at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. I went on to work clinically in the fields of Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology in acute hospital settings and had the opportunity to work with a range of client groups including diabetes, chronic pain, cardiac rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke and degenerative neurological conditions. In 2001, I was seconded to the Commission for Health Improvement (now CQC) for a year to work as a project manager developing the clinical governance review process and conducting reviews in acute hospitals and mental health trusts.

From 2002-2013, I was Head of Psychology Services within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London where I managed and developed psychology services for medical inpatients and outpatients across five acute hospitals and community physical rehabilitation teams across four London Boroughs. From 2003-2005 I undertook an Executive MBA at the Cass Business School in London.

I have a longstanding passion for teaching and training; I taught psychology to medical students for over 18 years at Imperial College London where I was appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in 1999 and Lead for Psychology teaching from 2007-2014. I also taught the Psychology module on the undergraduate dentistry programme at Barts & The Royal London for over 20 years. Before coming to Oxford I taught regularly on clinical psychology training programmes in London and clinically supervised numerous trainees from the four London courses and also a number of overseas trainees.

I have undertaken numerous roles within the British Psychological Society including as Chair of the Professional Practice Board and Trustee and represented the profession on many national and international committees and working groups.

I have undertaken a range of different research programmes in psychological aspects of physical health and healthcare and am currently engaged in a programme of research into Leadership Development together with colleagues at the Centre for Strategic Leadership at The University of Edinburgh Business School.
